At presentations and networking events, I talk to a lot of solo-preneurs, entrepreneurs and small business owners. One of the questions I get asked all the time is about blogging and content marketing, and that question is…
When Should I Start Writing Blogs?
When is it a good time to start writing?
When should my first post be?
What should my first post be about?
Introduce yourself and/or your business.
How Long Should My First Post Be?
Keep it short and to the point!

Most Blogs Never Get Off The Ground
Do you want to know why most blogs fail? People stop writing them. Plain and simple.
For your blog and your content marketing strategy to be successful, you need to keep writing content on a regular basis.
Does that mean writing content every day? No.
Does that mean writing interesting, relevant content on a regular basis? Yes.
How many times have you gone to a website and clicked on their blog or read in their footer or sidebar that they have 2 or 3 blog posts that were written over 6 months ago?
Worse, you search for a product or service you need, find a link to a website, click it and get a blog from over a year ago with out of date content… and it’s the last thing they ever wrote.
Questions come to mind:
- Is the business still open?
- Why don’t they update their website?
- Is this information still current or relevant?
And then the worst possible result happens.
They click the “back” button and click on your competitor’s website.
You have lost a customer and a sale. You have lost the chance to build a lifetime relationship with that customer and the revenue and rewards that come with it.
