So you’re posting a video on Instagram and you don’t want the sound.
Maybe there’s someone’s bad ringtone in the background or popular music that might alert the Instagram copyright Gestapo, or maybe you just want pictures without sound…
(Screenshots were captured on the Instagram app for iOS before the change to Reels in October 2020.)
Step 1: Tap the plus sign button at the bottom of the screen to start your new video post.
Step 2: Select a video you’d like to share or you can record a new video with the app’s video camera by using the video button and holding down the camera shutter circular button you normally use to take photos.
Step 3: Tap the Nest button in the top-right to prepare the video to be shared.
Step 4: Tap the little speaker icon located at the top-middle of the screen to turn off the video’s sound. The icon will change to a “no sound” icon.
After you tap this button and post the video to your Instagram feed, no sound is uploaded with the video. If viewers tap the video in an attempt to hear the sound, it will remain silent. This method removes the sound completely.
